It’s a Taco Fiesta!
Hola friends! I’m so excited to share this birthday card with you today. I made a super fun taco-themed birthday card, and this card is full of techniques. From masking, to die cutting, to coloring - this card has a little bit of something for everyone. Check out my video tutorial on YouTube to see how I made this fun taco party. Now, who wants to pick up tacos?!?!
First, I cut a slimline card panel using Lawn Fawn’s Small Slimline with Lift the Flaps die from Neenah Solar White Classic Crest in 110lb. I then stamped all the food images from Stampin’ Up’s Taco Fiesta stamp set onto masking paper, and fussy cut them out (this stamp set doesn’t come with dies). I then layered the images on the card panel, stamped them with Hero Arts Intensified black ink, and continued masking and stamping until the panel was full. Once all the images had masks covering them, I ink blended the background using Lawn Fawn’s Brick Stencil using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Inks in Lemonade, Sunbeam, and Citrine. This brick stencil has to be one of my favorites. It’s so versatile! I finished off the background with some ink splatters using the citrine ink and removed all the masks for an exciting reveal!
Next, I colored all the images using Copic Markers (I’ll list out the colors by image below!) and added some highlights with a white gel pen. I don’t get too picky when I color with copics; I try to use 2-3 colors per image that blend well together. It takes a lot of practice and I am still learning from some of the best colorists out there! I stamped the main sentiment directly onto the card panel using Versafine Onyx black ink (my go-to ink for sentiments) and stamped the secondary sentiment on white using citrine ink. I die cut the secondary sentiment out using Simon Says Stamp’s Sentiment Label Wafer Dies, and then a total of 5 white flag banners and 5 patterned paper flag banners from Lawn Fawn’s Fly High Dies. This set does come with a coordinating stamp set, but I only used the dies on this card. The colored banners were cut from My Favorite Things Stripe Splash patterned paper pad. I (tediously) fussy cut the colored banners apart so that I could reassemble them in rainbow order on each of the 5 separate banners. It took a bit of time, but I think it was totally worth it!
Finally, I finished the card with Pretty Pink Posh Sunshine Pearls and a red clay heart embellishment. I paired this card with a slimline envelope from Simon Says Stamp in the color Dandelion, after stamping a few of the images onto the envelope itself. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t be ecstatic to receive this card in the mail (even if it does make them a little hungry)! Let’s craft together!
